Fletcher Moss Park was aglow with lanterns last weekend as a record number of families flocked to Didsbury Arts Festival’s spectacular lantern parade.

Nearly 1,000 people enjoyed an enchanted, moonlit walk on Saturday evening in and around the historic, local beauty spot. A giant, illuminated boxing hare and a magic rabbit in a hat were among the evening’s surprises and the park’s candle lit Alpine Tea Rooms stayed open to provide refreshments.

Students from Parrswood High School entertained the crowd with live music. Meanwhile, Parrswood students and pupils from local primary schools (Cavendish Primary, Didsbury CofE and Moor Allerton) carried lanterns made in workshops over the last few weeks.

Maria Stipling, Chair of the DAF Board, said: 'The DAF lantern parade has been popular in previous years, but this year's event attracted more people than ever! I’m delighted at the huge number of families who turned out to enjoy this very special occasion. We were lucky to have a dry, mild evening for our walk. This was a really lovely, village community event!'

This year, DAF is taking a year off from a full, nine-day festival. The next full-length festival will take place from 20 – 28 June, 2015.

Volunteers are invited to join the festival team to help deliver a successful DAF 2015. Organisers would particularly like to hear from people with experience in fundraising, project management, programming, marketing and website management. Individuals are also sought to engage with community groups and local businesses to promote their involvement in the 2015 festival programme.
